4. F Cross & Sons - The F Cross & Sons group of motor dealers is one of Britain's most remarkable automotive success stories, which began over forty years ago in 1958. That was the year that Fred and Peggy Cross purchased a four-acre site at Hatfield on the outskirts of Doncaster. Fred had previously carried out car repairs in a small workshop in Stainforth. The new site consisted of just three petrol pumps and a modest workshop and offered a service of car repairs, car sales and fuel. The garage was situated on the A1146 on the outskirts of Hatfield.
